Are we ready for the fun to begin again.
It is tomorrow isn’t it?
Also can I Suse 11 >11.1 through factory ow will I have to find space on my HD
Using Alpha software is such a bad idea…
nt t
Yeah but it’s fun went through 11.0 from earliest alphas come to think about it I’ll find space for its own installation cause I had to reinstall suse 11.0 alpha and betas a few times:p
not if you like testing software.
In a way, 11.1 alpha is like an improvement to 11.0, so which is really more stable? I look forward to 11.1 with KDE 4.1 and stuff.
It’s a shame that often the wrong people like to do it.
What could be wrong with enjoying the latest in open source software? It doesn’t hurt anyone and the person can provide bug reports.
There’s nothing wrong with it - it’s just often that people who should not be testing do and their reports are not always very… accurate.
Also they often tend to swamp support channels asking about alpha products which we may have no answers to (many times because the software itself is flawed), causing further grief to them (and us).
I suppose you’re right about that. But then again the more “typical” people who can put a word in early on, the better it gets, assuming the people handeling the bug reports can stay on top of them.
Today’s the day, where’s the alpha?
If everyone would just pay heed to the warning that comes with
the development versions that something may be broken at any time and wait fro a couple of upgrades before they panic and start flooding the forums and filing bug reports eveytime the system burps.
As a side note. I cut my teeth on Clive Sinclair’s little Zilog
black box and learned that dialog of basic and some machine language programing. I started Suse sometime in 2002 when I accidentally formated my windows 98 and found Suse.

Isn’t that what we want? More bug reports so the bugs can be worked out
so that the goldmaster is as clean as possible?
Yes All Im saying is make sure its a bug and not something like a broken disk with a bad md5sum or something.
Ive seen factory updates coming at quite a rapid rate daily sometimes just wait a day
and see if the cure dont happen.
1 I screwed up
2 my hardware needs a proprietary driver
thats not available yet
3 developer misses a closing )) or
something but catches it straight away
and the fix is available in the next
day
4 its a bug
Downloading 11.1A now the fun really begins;)
Looks like you can download the alpha 1 now. Software.openSUSE.org
But the home page is outdated – there’s no mention with information about the alpha 1 aside from the roadmap, and I’d like to see a page with some screenshots and what’s new.
Also that “11.0 is out” button on the left should really be replaced by a generic “download 11.0” or something. It’s been over a month and we’re already onto 11.1 a1, man!
Yeah, the forum code doesn’t show the whole address (just the title). It’s software.opensuse.org/developer
Generally, the stable & tested released version will almost always be more stable. Yes, 11.1’s pre-releases will be an improvement to 11.0 feature-wise, but while the features are being developed, the system will almost always be very unstable.
Either way, the rule of thumb is to run pre-release software for testing purposes only, and run the stable, released version when you need to do actual work on the computer.
True, but all I can say is that running KDE 4.0.5 is less stable than KDE 4.1 RC1.

Beautiful!
