I sort of stayed away from opensuse 11.0 on my desktop (using it on my file server) because there were some major issues with the sound cards and Pulse audio when using Gnome. I couldn’t get any sound to work properly because I have a surround sound card.
Is this issue still around in 11.1 or has been squashed?
The first thing many people, including myself, did with 11.0 was uninstall pulse audio. Sound issue solved. With 11.1, pulse audio is leaps and bounds above what it was a few months ago. I’ve been using 11.1 daily since beta 1 and can honestly say that I haven’t given any thought to sound, other than when I marvel at the fact that I’m using pulse audio.
This sounds like progress to me, I tried to uninstall pulse in 11.0 and I was just just a royal pain. KDE 4 is not quite where I would like it to be just yet, I hate that I can not change mime type icons or that half the icons mimetypes don’t have an icon assosiated with them yet. I have been using Ubuntu for the past 6 months and its been OK but its not SUSE!
I will try to give install the lastest beta and see what sort of results I get with the sound.
