Since upgrading(?) from 4.2.0 to 4.2.1, Mplayer no longer produces any sound
when I’m trying to listen to a radio station. On selecting “play” it
produces the message “getting playlist” followed almost immediately by
“stopped”. There is another message between these two but it’s only there
for a microsecond.

I don’t use MPlayer but I find that either Real Player or Kaffeine will play whatever I need; with some streams Real Player produces the same response as you are getting from MPlayer but switching to Kaffeine solves the problem.

Since updating to KDE 4.2.2 and reloading Mplayer, it now works. Kaffiene
wasn’t a rip-roaring success under 4.2.1 and still isn’t. Some plug-in
missing apparently.
