opensuse 11.1 in virtualbox

Hi,

Did anyone tried to install and use opensuse 11.1 in virtualbox under windows ?

I just installed it but after the reboot it did not show KDM. I tried to reconfigured the X server and set the Video ram size in Vitualbox to 128MB.

All I can do is log in to KDE3, all other window managers do not load. KDM starts to load the window manager but after some seconds it goes back to the kdm login screen.

This worked fine with suse 11.0 before ??

Couple of days ago I wiped out opensuse 11.0 virtual machine (though now I realize I shouldn’t have done it) to take the new 11.1 for a spin. First install was KDE 4. Experience was pretty horrible, compared to opensuse 11.0 with KDE 3.5.X. Everything seemed sooo slooow. I know, it still was a VM, but opensuse 11.0 was pretty snappy. After installation of virtualbox guest additions I discovered that mouse was acting pretty weird, some reported similar misbehavior (mouse cursor in captured guest not visible and mouse clicks not working). I recall that display resizing also was not working.

Anyway, did a fresh install this time with KDE 3. Much better. Perhaps I am just not ready yet for KDE 4. But still I must say that opensuse 11.0 felt kind of snappier. I recall with opensuse 11.0 I had ~30 seconds from grub till X login screen. With opensuse 11.1 it was 45 seconds.

One more thing, mouse integration was working in 11.0, but not in 11.1.

My host OS is Vista 64-bit and all VMs were 32-bit, virtualbox 2.0.4.

Get the more recent VB 2.10 - works much better under 11.1 (or 11.0). A
minimal 11.1 (32 bit) VM works fine with KDE3 or GNOME (KDE4 is just not in
my future), Win XP looks about the same but OS/2 with hardware
virtualization is much better. I’m using a Linux host so I couldn’t say
what the effect is with anything else
