Have a Dell Latitude c400. Have experienced difficulties in display operation (Intel graphics). Booted using failsafe mode and downloaded update. After update can only boot into command line, not even using failsafe mode.
Log in as root and run this command:
sax2 -r -m 0=vesa
(this tip should probably be a sticky)
You what would be great is if there was an option in the boot menu entitled “Boot With VESA Display Driver”. This would end untold misery suffered by people who boot up to a black screen after trying unsuccessfully to install a display driver.
Or possibly even have a feature where if a display driver cannot be loaded successfully, the vesa driver will load by default.
Many thanks for the tip. However, no joy unfortunately. Just the ‘blinking’ screen. I also tried sax2 -r -m 0=intel. Screen was readable (still CLI) but larger font - so could not see actually CLI prompt! Results in failure to start configuration server.
You do know that you can run YAST from text mode right?
If you’re logged in as root just enter the command
and it will start. It looks funky and you won’t have a mouse, but you should be able to uninstall the intel driver that hosed your system from there. Then try running sax2 again.
