OpenSuse 11.0 wlan0 problems!!

Hello.

I have problems with ndiswrapper and wlan0!
I succesfuly create interface wlan0 and have configure it with static ip. It work when pinging router and it is on 10.0.0.1 address. But if i want to ping google.com it says:

connect: something that he cant find remote address!

BUT
if i do: host google.com it will resolv!!!
so only ping dont work and with that the whole internet.

Interesting is that that host google.com it resolv.! Ping google.com return some mistake on connect…

so what is wrong here? I have do everithing right on wlan0 configuration i think!

I have tested static connection on interface eth0 and it work great but i need wireless…

TNX in ADVANCE

i think that i need to configure suse somehow to use wlan0 for network. Where to do this i dont now!

ifup wlan0

DONT work

it works only that what have i write on first post
host # command resolv google.com
BUT
ping # command cant resolv ip or whatever

I have checked /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan0 and there is IPADDR_es added as: 10.0.0.88/24 so
ping work on 10.0.0.* all numbers from 1-255! And if i change 10.0.0.88/8 it can ping all numbers from 10...* from 1-255 so???

I cant get this…

PLEASE HELP

Hello m5it, welcome to the Forums.

Try configuring wlan0 in Yast – network devices. Here is a tutorial with screenshots for a wireless device: Madwifi or Ndiswrapper Wireless Network Drivers - Suse/openSUSE 10, 11 - LAN & Internet access
And here for a wired device: HowTo Configure a network card in Suse/openSUSE 10, 11 for LAN and Internet Access.

hello again.

Well i have do everything what have you say with no success. I have installed kernel-pae for ndiswrapper but here is the same problem as in normal kernel… i can say to you that you dont need to install that kernel if you load manual module ndiswrapper and remove module ath5k at boot start.

Good thing in my case is that I can connect to ROUTER. So if every thing will be right it need to work.

so if i run command:
host # and it resolv some hostname… that meen iam connected!! But ping dont work so here is some bug!!!

i have checked /etc/sysconfig/ifroute-lo file and there says that there was some bug for… something and there is added 127/8 so they can resolv all addreses betven 127...* # where is * can resolv all nubers betwen 1-255 !!!

so i added 193/8 becose i now that on that address runs some dns server… so i have restarted network and now it can ping 193.2.1.66 ← DNS but with no success.! but it can.

all other networks i can not ping it return:
connect: network is unreachable

SO i am connected to router and can ping it!!

i realy dont understand why the f*** in /etc/sysconfig/ifcfg-wlan0 is line:
IFADDR=‘10.0.0.33/24’

OK i understand 10.0.0.33 that is my ip but why the f*** it need /24 behind?

so when is /24 behind system understand that he can ping 10.0.0.* and nothing else…
if i rename /24 to /8 i can ping 10...* and nothing else!!!

YOU NOW WHAT I MEEN?

here is a bug and i have no more clue on it…
so please help or i give up

sory for my bad language
and tnx…
by

ok iam sorry for all my words… but maybe will help someone
Now network works and i am really happy you need to see my smile =)
Well network works on kernel *-pae but i think it will work on default kernel to if you manualy load ndiswrapper and remove at startup ath5k… if it works I will tell you later when I try.

What have i done is:
Computer → Yast → Network manager!
( my mistake was that i have change network setup method to: with traditional method ifup on static ip! and here was something wrong… )

Then i have change back to user controled with network manager and it have start automaticali using wlan0 with dhcp. On opensuse toolbar where is Computer button i notised icon for wireless connections!!..->

  • click on icon right mouse button -> edit connections!
( here have open some other network manager utility name: Network connections ! )
Here you can set all network settings for static and dhcp addresses and system accept it! Not like Network manager!!

So if that helps to others i will be glad.

Tnx for everything and goodbye
Hope i will never need you again but iam not shure about that… :stuck_out_tongue:
