openSUSE 10.2 (X86-64) Upgrade

I’m considering upgrading, but have never upgraded a *nix box.

My current drive has 4 partitions
a) /
b) /home/<users>
c) /swap
d) /windoze XP (Yes, this box is a dual boot)

Questions:

  1. Is there a simple “Upgrade” button somewhere that will take me from 10.2 to current stable (what version is that btw?)?
  • a) If so, does it work, or is it as clunky as upgrading a windows box, where a full reinstall is more wise?
  1. Can I simply download the stable DVD and reinstall ‘/’ and leave /home/<users> intact so all my KDE, firefox, etc. settings and files are left alone?

NO

Can I simply download the stable DVD and reinstall ‘/’ and leave /home/<users> intact so all my KDE, firefox, etc. settings and files are left alone?
That’s the best way to do it.
