openSISE 15.2 GNOME Version

Hi all,

I just have a little curiosity - I’ve noticed big performance improvements between GNOME 3.26 and 3.32/3.34. On openSUSE News I saw that Plasma and a few other components will be upgraded for 15.2 like in 42.2. Does this mean GNOME will also be upgraded?

These performance boosts would be just enough to switch back from MATE on my laptop :stuck_out_tongue:

I have not heard anything about Gnome for 15.2.

Hi
Unlikely to change through the lifetime of Leap 15 series…

Aww, dang. The old version is really clunky, especially on weaker hardware. I’ll enjoy the Plasma upgrade though!

I have no information,
But typically more recent versions available upstream are available through a non-default repository.

Looks like 3.34 is in TW already…

I just checked my 15.2 VM, no 3.34 GNOME in 15.2 ( yet ). But that would not have to be the release version when 15.2 is released next year. And it being Leap 15.x is not a guarantee that it won’t. F.e. Xfce’s had a new major version in 15.1 as a last minute addition IIRC.

Yes, it is.

I would expect Gnome in Leap 15.2 to be tied to the Gnome version in SLE 15.

People who really want bleeding edge should consider using Tumbleweed.

Hi
Confirmed with the GNOME maintainers, looks like SLE 15 SP2 is getting 3.34.x, so Leap 15.2 will get it as well…

That’s good news. Thanks.
