openoffice the process for the file protocol died unexpectedly

Hi I often get this message-

the process for the file protocol died unexpectedly

when I try to “save as” from calc openoffice 3.2

If I cancel the message window, most times I can still save the file but find the response when moving to different files in the save window very slow.

Sometimes the program crashes. sometimes the file just saves ok

Any help would be great.

If you use KDE or GNOME?

There are more problems with the file dialog of OpenOffice.org.
Here are a few forum topics about it:

If you read them you’ll see that the solution is to disable/uninstall the kde4 extension for OpenOffice.org.
To disable them start oowriter, go to Tools -> Options and select “General”
Enable the option “Use OpenOffice.org dialogs” and press OK
