I had been using opensuse 11.0 (64 bit, kde) and openoffice was working
fine for me for a while. Then one day it stopped working. I updated to
opensuse 11.1, hoping the update would solve my openoffice problem. But
it does not. When I issued the command soffice from a Konsole, the
splash screen appeared for a few second, then disappeared, no Xterm
window was opened by soffice, and no error messages. I tried to do the
same thing as another user and as root, same results. I would
appreciate your help!!

I had a similar problem and was advised to rename the .ooo3 - to .ooo3_OLD
say - and try starting Open Office again. It worked for me but I’ve
recently realised I’ve lost my personal details and had to re-enter them.
Don’t know if that’s related.

I renamed .ooo3 in my home directory. It still didn’t work.
I deleted openoffice with Yast2, installed the stable version (32 bit)
from ‘OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite’
(http://www.openoffice.org). That works !!
