OpenOffice 3.x missing in 11.x

Hello,

I just installed the 64-bit version of OpenSuse 11.0 and applied all updates. OpenOffice Writer is still at version 2.4.0?? The features list says it should be at 3.0.x. I tried updates and even looked through the package list. It is not there for me to get. Was there a regression or has someone simply forgotten to add it to the 64-bit repository?

I see there is a 64-bit RPM on the OpenOffice.org site.

However in 11.x where x=1, OO is at 3.0.

$ rpm -qf /usr/bin/oowriter
OpenOffice_org-writer-3.0.0.9-2.7

When you install 11.0 and apply all updates with this particular distro, do you not move up to 11.1 as with other operating systems? I would think only major .0 releases would force a re-install.

No, there is a distinction between a package updates, which fix bugs, and distro upgrade, which is potentially disruptive. The distro upgrade feature is currently requires booting from the next release’s media to reliably upgrade (and many people find even this a little dicey and prefer a fresh install, retaining /home), although from 11.2 zypper can be used to do this. So 10.3, 11.0, 11.1 are all distinct releases. The major number in versions is partly marketing.

However you should be able to find a repo with the latest OO as Andreas has already posted. But you have to choose to install the latest package versions, they are not offered automatically as updates are.
