Voice of the forum (members, mods, admins, all)!. Would you say that it is acceptable behavior to ask multiple questions/open multiple topics in a very small period of time?
For example, let’s say I recently set up my first Linux distribution - openSUSE Tumbleweed and I am full of questions, and programs misbehaving. I do my ‘research’, but it fails me, or I fail myself(?).
A short period of time could mean… 4 topics opened in 30 minutes or 4 topics opened in 24 hours. Perhaps you are able to open 20 topics in 30 minutes! Though I clearly am not.
I will assume that all new topics opened will be unrelated to each other.
Please redirect me to the place this is already answered, if it is. I have checked Code of Conduct page, FAQ and have done a search of previous posts with same keywords. Sorry if I missed something.
Do not combine several questions/problems in one topic (and that is not what you suggested to do, but nevertheless).
And consider that you have to watch all those topics and react to eventual answers (which may ask you to do and post things). Thus it is more a question if you are able to keep more topics alive and kicking. When people ask for more information and then have to wait days for an answer, they will loose interest.
I apologize if I failed to make it clear. My query is more focused on the commonly assumed etiquette of the forum. Would you mind it if you some random like me opens 6 different topics under an hour? Of course, the topics are assumed as valid here - perhaps serious questions, genuine feedback etc.
I also acknowledge the fact that you respondents aren’t the only factor. I’m here assuming that I will keep up with the topics till I achieve a valid conclusion - perhaps a solution or failure. But I am interested if you’d mind seeing the same guy making multiple topics in a day.
No. They will partly be in different sections, and will be answered by different people. But those people expect your answers within a reasonable amount of time.
Basically there is no difference between six topics from six different people or from the same person. As long as you do not assume that someone that answers to one of them has read all the others.
Different topics is fine. Just don’t post the same topic to multiple sections in the hopes of getting an answer faster.
That never works, and it dilutes the response pool and duplicates efforts. So find the section you think is the best place for it and post it there. If it’s not, it can be moved - but don’t just ask the same question in multiple sections.
Different questions? Sure, that’s ideal, because then we don’t have a mega-thread with a hundred different problems in it, which also dilutes the ability for anyone to help in a meaningful way.
One topic per discussion is the ideal. Doesn’t always happen, because that’s the nature of discussions. But it’s the best way to ask for help and to get help.
