Open64, repositories and compiling own program from either rpm(binary or source) or source

I am a complete stranger to openSuse (ver 13.1) , but not to linux. I have a new computer with an AMD-FX8350 processor and wish to do parallel programming with the compilers from the Open64 site. The Suse site speaks about repositories with little detail about RPM’s in general; will the generic RPM from Sourceforge for Open64 work?. What I am asking is as follows:

  1. Could you kindly give me step by step instructions how to install this very important compiler set?.
  2. How to set paths?
  3. How to install openMPI that must linked to this compiler?
  4. How to chose repos. that are suitable for openSuse even if openSuse is not mentioned at all in the Repos, such as sourceforge .

In general most apps come from the regular repositories. You can view and search for things in Yast - software management. Not knowing exactly what you want it is hard to point you to the right repo.

More esoteric apps may not be in the general repos But they are often found in private reposs. You can search for things here
software.opensuse.org: Search

If it is really rare you may need to install from source.

You can try any RPM you might find but some are set up for Red Hat so may or may not work on openSUSE

Why don’t you download the relevant binay from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/open64/files/open64/Open64-5.0/ and work
with it. You may not need to “install” if you are the only one who is
going to use this application
