Open Suse or Enterprise

Ok…I’d still consider myself very new to Linux. I have a copy of SLES 10 that we purchased at the advisement of a developer we hired…well he flaked out after it was installed and it has just sat there on a machine doing nothing. At this point we’re looking to setup a MySql server. I’ve patched 10 using the online update but I’ve noticed that I cannot install some newer software (Firefox being the first I’ve tried) due to other software being outdated. MySql is not installed yet but since I received the error message installing FF I got the feeling that I should update SLES overall before I start this project. Or is OpenSuse stable enough to run a MySQL server in a Vmware image? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Opensuse is just fine for a MySQL server, from a technical point of view. Other factors may influence the decision, like availability of support and the product lifecycle, or maybe the application that actually uses the MySQL database.
