Open suse login (could not start kdeinit4) + Yast2 error

hello

I am using opensuse 11.3. I am encoutering a problem while trying to log in. The problem message was

"could not start kdeinit4. Check your installation"

I tried to solve this problem by following the instructions given in OpenSuSE 11.0 Could not start kdeinit4… i.e., I opened yast2 and then I had to select “software management” from there in order to update all the packages in kde4. But I got another error when I clicked it.

/usr/lib/YaST2/bin/y2base:/usr/local/lib/libstdc++.so.6: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/YaST2/plugin/libpy2wfm.so.2)

The error list continues. I cannot type whole error list ending with similar wordings as above as am using different computer.

I tried to solve this one too by following the instructions in Relocation Error but I could not understand its line “…fixed the problem by taking /usr/local/lib out of ld.so.conf, and then running ldconfig” as am new to linux :frowning:

Can anyone help me what this error is about and how I can solve it?

You could first of all login with IceWM
http://www.su2root.ukfsn.org/files/Session Login/session.type.png

Once there
Post here the result of

zypper lr -d

I login from failsfe(session), got a terminal, typed the command you suggested…and got

administrator@linux-wnx3:~> zypper lr -d
zypper: /usr/local/lib/libstdc++.so.6: no version information available (required by zypper)
zypper: /usr/local/lib/libstdc++.so.6: no version information available (required by zypper)
.
.
.
.
zypper: /usr/local/lib/libstdc++.so.6: no version information available (required by usr/lib/libzypp.so.706)
zypper: relocation error: zypper: symbol_ZNSt3tr18__detail12__prime_listE, version GLIBCXX_3.4.10 not defined in file libstdc++.so.6 with link time reference

Sorry could not paste whole error messge as am using different computer, have types the start and the ending lines…The lines in middle are identical to these error lines.

But I asked if you could login with IceWM

Don’t you have any idea what repos you have enabled?

actually while trying to solve the problem I think I have messed up with everything. Now I cant even see the main login interface, instead of that i am taken to the terminal from where i used to login from my username/administrator. I dont know the command to selest the desktop login type from terminal. I think I might will end up installing new opensuse :frowning:

I think I might will end up installing new opensuse
