Open suse 13.1 showing less memory than it is originally.

I had been working on Linux (Open SUSE 12.1) and it showed a total memory of 8 GiB RAM. However, I have recently updated my system to open SUSE 13.1 and now it is showing a total memory of 3.87 GiB RAM.
Can anyone help me to understand the reason behind this? Also how can I overcome this problem?

Thanking You,

Sounds like you installed the 32-bit version of 13.1 - you probably want
the 64-bit version instead.

And how do I know what version of 13.1 I have installed?
Forgive me if I sound uninformed but I am kind of new to this field.

oh! Okay I got it.
Turns out I have installed the 64-bit version

Linux node14 3.4.63-2.44-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Oct 2 11:18:32 UTC 2013 (d91a619) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

What now?

Please post the output of the terminal command free and wrap it in code tags;

Like this!

Linux node14 3.4.63-2.44-desktop

Thats the Kernel of openSUSE 12.3.

Did you restart your System?

Please post:

zypper lr -uP

uname -a

That will tell you the running kernel.

I would run a memory test - the 64-bit version won’t have an issue
addressing memory beyond 4GB, so it’s possible you’ve developed a
hardware fault.
