Open Suse 11 asking for Login/Password during install

I am trying to run the Open Suse 11 Live CD on my 2 year old Acer Laptop. During install(?) i get asked for the Linux login/password. It does this during the DOS looking part of the install(?). It doesnt go any further than that. I never make it to the GUI part and thus i am unable to use it. The laptop was recently wiped clean and there is no operating system on there now.

Also, i downloaded the DVD installer and when i try to boot from CD it doenst recognize the disc. It is a DVD drive so i am not sure what the prob is.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

OK i am home now and using a live CD i know works cause i checked it at work. Here is exactly what it says…

Master Resource Control: runlevel 5 has been reached

Welcome to openSUSE 11.0 (i586) - Kernal 2.6.25.5-1.1-default (tty1)

linux login:

any help???

It means the graphical subsystem could not be started for some reason - most likely the display adapter isn’t being recognized and it’s dropping you to shell.

Enter root as the username and press enter.

Then type:
init 3
sax2 -r -m 0=vesa
init 5

See if this helps.

Note that there never was an openSUSE ver 11 So maybe you have just SUSE which is the the commercial version in any case all openSUSE 11.x versions are long ago no longer supported.
