Open Suse 11.1 no audio at all.

Hi there,

this is my first time using suse but i’ve been using fedora for years, just installed the 64 bit version yesterday and everything works great except for audio. i can’t get any sounds out of it.

whenever i log in i get this message in xconsole:

pulseaudio[4148]: module.c: Failed to load module “module-alsa-source” (argument: “device_id=0 source_name=alsa_input.pci_8086_27d8_sound_card_0_alsa_capture_0 tsched=1”): initialization failed.

also the sound mixer won’t show any controls or let me add any. i checked the soundcard detection in yast and it was found and looked ok.

any ideas?

Try this
SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE

and fixed. turns out it was a weird permissions thing that happens from time to time across distros between pulse and security settings changing some permissions.

actually root user had sound all the time, but not the regular one, so i added myself to groups audio, trusted, and the 3 pulseaudio ones, and fixed like magic.

Super ! Thanks for sharing your solution.
