Never ever install from Windows. This will simply not work and has a good chance of messing up Windows.

Also there should be at least 2 partitions for for Linux and OpenSuse defaults to 3.

  1. fix the DVD or try installing a CD image from a USB memstick
  2. Remove the 84gb partition. If you have data on it copy data to a safe place. In fact since you are playing with partitions to be safe backup all data.
  3. Let the installer create the partitions in the free space you made by removing the 84GB partition.
  4. and did I mention never ever try to install OpenSuse from inside Windows

You can also create a bootable USB stick if You have another PC to do that and boot from that to a live OS and see what’s messed up.

Best regards,
Greg

i’d say:

  • restore your working Vista and data from your most recent backup

  • do NOT try to install 10.3 as it has not been supported for over a year

  • instead, download 11.3 here, http://software.opensuse.org/113/en

  • do NOT install from inside windows, ever! instead read all the info
under “How to Proceed” on this page

and, good rule of thumb: read first and avoid these kinds of problems…

I think that as his DVD reader doesn’t work, he tried one of those
procedures to install without one. I wonder which documentation/procedure
he followed.
