Open as Root

Hi all,

First my apologies if I’m posting this in the wrong form.

My question is, is there any way I can open files as root, I’m on OpenSUSE 13.2 and using Gnome. I’ve also got Cinnamon and it has the right click option on.

Any help or advice would be very helpfully.

Many thanks.

What type of file are you wanting to open? If a text-based config file, then editing via terminal command with

gnomesu gedit /path/to/file

What means “open”? Edit? With what?
Or does it mean “run”?

Like above, open with what, for what? Most files that are owned by root can be opened for reading by others.

In general, do not use root. And read this: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB%3ALogin_as_root
