Only OSS

Is there a way to set SuSE 11.1 to use only OSS (no ALSA)? It seems that my audio card will only work with OSS.

How exactly would I go about getting the latest version of OSS anyway (4.1 1051)?

I replied to help you try get alsa functioning in a previous thread (a few minutes ago):

Is your graphic device incompatible with alsa? Let me know if it is listed in the incompatibility list:

To answer your question, I do not know anything about OSS (4.1 … nor any other version) so I can not help you there.

OSS development was abandoned so long ago that no modern devices are
likely to work with it. If you have an old one such as SoundBlaster,
you can always blacklist the ALSA modules.

OSSv4 supports some newer soundcards as well, but OSSv4 is (ussually) not included in the linux kernel and its (in almost all Linux distributions) not easy to install.

I found an interessting article about OSS vs. ALSA:
