Only intermittent forum email notifications

Since the beginning of this month I barely receive any email notifications from the openSUSE forums.

As a first step I disabled the SPAM-filter of my mail account. That did not help.

Then I checked my forum settings (which I had not changed in the last 7 months and which had been working fine) and changed:

Email me when I am quoted, replied to, my @username is mentioned, or when there is new activity in my watched categories, tags or topics

from only when away
to always

But although there have been 24 posts (so far) on this topic (6 of them written by me) I only received three notification emails from the forum

28 Aug 2023 16:48:41 +0000 (UTC)
29 Aug 2023 07:22:21 +0000 (UTC)

e.g. I received no email notification for this post.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

@susejunky are you actually watching the thread or tracking the thread? I see emails going out according to you being quoted, replied to and username…

I’m tracking it.

And in the forum preferences I have set

When I post in a topic, set that topic to

to

Tracking.

This time I received an email notification that you answered to my post.

So if I don’t reply direct or quote you s u s e j u n k y do you get a notification…?

I received an email notification for your post above.

@susejunky I guess you need to ensure it’s set to tracking?

As I already mentioned When I post in a topic, set that topic to is set to Tracking in my forum preferences (at least since the last seven months).

So I guess there should have been more than just three email notifications for this topic.

Still no email notifications from the forum !!!

this thread

@susejunky and did you get a notification for this one…

I’m not sure, but I think you need to set the topic to “Watching” if you want a notification for every new post in the thread. With “Tracking” you only get a notification for direct replies to your own posts, but it does show up as a thread with unread posts.

Those topics where I get e-mail notifications show “Watching” (and I switch that to “normal” if I want to stop getting e-mail about a topic).

When I post in a topic it is switched to “Watching” automatically. That may be a setting in my profile.
I can of course also switch to “Watching” on a topic when want so.

This is how it works here and I am satisfied with this part of the forums.

@malcolmlewis : Yes, I received an notification EMail for your post but not for the two following ones by @nrickert and @hcvv .

And I received an notification EMail for @nrickert post here.

For the record: Both threads are set to “Tracking”!

@susejunky and if you set to watch as suggested by @hcvv

As @malcolmlewis says, that is not what @nrickert and I have.

Maybe you should check in your profile to what things are set when you post in them.

Hmmm, … I received an email notification for your post although this topic is set to “Tracking” ???

Yes, I will try.

For tracking I believe I need to @susejunky when set to watching you should get all…?

@hcvv : Now I changed in my forum preferences under Notifications When I post in a topic, set that topic to from Tracking to Watching and will see how things develope.

Still I do not understand why I received an email notification for this post although this topic is set to “Tracking” !?

When you click the button, it has some explanation for the different buzz-words. As I read it Tracking only mails you when somebody replies direct to a post of you (and thus not to the topic in general), or of you are mentioned with @susejunky . And Watching sends you on all changes in the topic.

Maybe because it clearly quotes you (like this one).

I can only guess reading the description. I have all on Watching (either automatic or manual) and thus have no experience whatsoever with Tracking.
