How do I get the KDE Plasma desktop manager back.
Logout and in the login screen select “Plasma5”
Oh… I wish it were that simple!
On the Log On screen, Session drop-down, I only have ICE WM ant TWM? And TWM only gives me a blank screen and no keyboard/mouse response.
What do I need to check to confirm that the KDE desktop package is loaded?
And where is the setting to say that the KDE WM is to be default?
Regards,
Is plasma5-session installed?
Is it the SDDM login screen you see?
How did you upgrade? In my experience this sort of thing happens when the wrong repositories are selected.
Can you login to a useable text session – e.g. either xterm in IceWM or a console screen via <Ctr>l+<Alt>+<F7> ?
Check the repositories in use. You should get something like:
rayh@yoga3:~> zypper lr -Eu
Repository priorities are without effect. All enabled repositories share the same priority.

You may be able to open a text (ncurses) version of YaST and check whether the KDE patterns are installed.
Open YaST with “sudo /sbin/yast” select the Software Manager module, then <Alt+f>, then “Patterns”, and ensure that the KDe Desktop patterns are selected.
And where is the setting to say that the KDE WM is to be default?,
This defaults to the last session used by the current user.
Yep… That did it!. Loaded the KDE Patterns - and all (well almost all) was restored.
Off to sort out the media codecs now…
Thanks everyone:)
