Online updater caught in a loop

Hello,

I have looked at previous discussions and it could be the same problem discussed last year. What I don’t understand is why this is happening now again:
On SuSE 11.1 The online update symbol indicates available updates (red triangle), but when I click it and accept the offered updates it simply goes back to its original shape and once again offers the same updates - apparently without actually updating anything.

Is there a problem with the repositories? should I change to other repositories?

Thanks,

Abe

Yes, sometimes the online updater misbehaves. What happens if you try from CLI with

zypper up

Are there updates waiting?

Why not use Yast to update your software through the “Software management”
app, that way you will be able to see what happens and if there is really a
new update for you system.

At least you will know what is causing it.

Or you could use zypper to refresh the repos and lu ( list updates ) to get
a clue as to id there are updates

It could be just the applet having a bad day I suppose.

Abe,

what Mark said. It goes away when you update through Yast. Software, click on “Package”, “All Packages”, “Update if newer version available”

Thanks for all the help. At the moment the problem disappeared so I can not reproduce it and do what you suggest. However, this was not a blip of the app - it persisted for well over a week before I finally gave up and posted to the forum. Next time I’ll get going faster. I do remember trying the YaST online update mechanism as well, without success.

Thanks again,

Abe

Next time, try the procedure I outlined. You’ll see different results compared to an Online Update, believe me.
