since about a week the kupdateapplet returns an error
“DBus error : org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied : Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type=“method_call”, sender=”:1.20" (uid=1000 pid=3541 comm=“kupdateapplet “) interface=“org.freedesktop.PackageKit.Transaction” member=“GetRepoList” error name=”(unset)” requested_reply=0 destination=“org.freedesktop.PackageKit” (uid=0 pid=4394 comm="/usr/sbin/packagekitd “))”
‘zypper lu’ and ‘yast2 online_update’ both work fine in the meantime.
Before that the system had a crash, possibly with filesystem errors. Any idea how to fix this?

Install the zypp backend for the updater icon (kde4-kupdateapplet-zypp)
and switch to the “ZYpp Plugin” backend via right click / configure
applet.
Thank you Andreas,
I tried that, the updater found some updates, and the applet crashed when performing the update itself, right in the beginning. I suspect now something’s wrong with my KDE4 libs (I overlooked the fact that I use kde4 updater applet running under kde3). Probably got some weird kde4 repos in the system…
Thanks for any help!

No, that’s correct, the kupdaterapplet depends on libkde4 and is
intended for both KDE3 and KDE4. There isn’t a pure KDE3 version
anymore.
Andreas,
Thanks you have shown me how to restore one of my favorite features. This happened to me a few weeks back & thought it was gone forever. I love the updater you’ve made me quite happy!
I’m adding to your rep.
