They are probably global files that are there for everybody’s use. I
think (untested) that they exist in /opt/gnome/share/dist/desktop-files/
as the various .desktop files. You’ll need to use sudo or otherwise
become powerful to move/delete them. I found these using the following
command:
find /opt/gnome -iname ‘*.desktop’

‘rm’ is typically the command of choice, but you could also move the
files somewhere else just in case you get the wrong ones and want to put
them back.

I just logged out and logged back on as root. Then browsed to the folder
and deleted them. I think its much easier to do that than work out the
terminal command…
