One Year Aniversary as an openSUSE Forum User

Today is my one year anniversary of being a member of the openSUSE forum. Of course the cake I found has three candles, but who is counting? lol!

I have been using SUSE Linux since version 10.0 which came out in October 6, 2005 and I even purchase a copy of SUSE Linux 10.1 in May 11, 2006. Seems like I was spending some time in Linuxquestions.org forum back then and I suspect I might have been a member of the SUSE Linux forum as well, but I was never online all that much and obviously did not remember what login I might have used then and it may even have been purged, who knows really. But this last year has been different for me, for lots of reasons. For one, I decided that I am going to learn more about using Linux than just getting a copy to load and dual boot with Windows. And to that end, I do believe I have succeeded.

I did have some health issues pop up last year, sending me to the hospital twice and missing some two months of work. Oddly, the second time around, I found myself online way too much and sitting up at the computer when I could barely sit up at all. Not much telling just how good any of the help I provided then might have been. Also, I discovered it is not all that advisable to try and help online after drinking a bit too much. Without regard to if the help was any good at all, but it would seem your feelings can get hurt way too quickly then as well. As luck would have it, I got saved more than once by our outstanding moderators in the openSUSE forums. And for that I thank you very much.

I normally do not post about such milestones, such as passing 1000 or 2000 message posts. As was very correctly pointed out in another message, an active message poster does not necessarily make for a better Linux user or a better Linux user helper. I suppose it does show some sort of interest in the subject of openSUSE, though one might wonder the exact motives that user may have. I do hope that my motives for being an active openSUSE forum user are more than obvious. I like helping others and I have found out that by helping others, you yourself learn more about using Linux. Specifically, you can get outside of your Linux user comfort zone, looking up issues for others you would not normally get involved with trying to find a solution for a subject you are not familiar with. For instance, just yesterday I found out about the qt configuration program called qtconfig for qt version 4. How could I have missed such a useful utility for so long? And what about some of our very brilliant users we have here? The things I have learned from our users here just blows my mind.

So, I wish to celebrate my successes here in the openSUSE forum and I do wish to ask for forgiveness for any transgressions that I may have done in action or in words. I do not wish to have any enemies here in the openSUSE forums. I do appreciate it when you directly send me a private message with any alleged transgressions, so that we can be clear on the subject and I will do the same. While it is hard to know every possible issue, I do promise to not directly criticize your efforts in public if you can do the same for me. I shall continue to do the best I can to help others. I will continue to pursue areas where I have more understanding, in hopes that the information will be more useful to others. I greatly appreciate your help in all forum messages to help fill in incomplete or to correct the help I have provided.

Thank You,

Congratulations.

Personaly I can say that you are a valuable contributor to these Forums and I allways take some time reading your comments about a subject.
And you contribution to the analysis of sound software on a system is valued by many.
Thanks for that. And now for the party <:)

Thanks for your kind words hcvv. Everyone is so busy today trying to help out with the new release of openSUSE 11.4, its kind of a bad day for normal Chit-Chat. And in fact I did fail to mention the releases of openSUSE 11.3 and 11.4 in my first year here. I must say that openSUSE has sure come a long way in this last year just as I have.

Thank You,

Congratulations!
Today is my one year anniversary in openSuse forum too. What a coincidence!
Anyway, you have contributed much more than me. So your cake should be much bigger. Maybe you can send I piece of it. Mine is so small that it isn’t worth sending a piece.:frowning:
Congratulations again.

Of course my congratulations go als to you. It seems that the 13th of March was a fruitfull day in 2009!

Thanks for your kind words wrbbt and it is a coincidence for sure. While I have done a lot in the last year, I did not do so much in my first several years. Like all things, your ability to help depends on the time you have to spare and just what is going on in your life. Helping in the openSUSE forum is not the most important thing in ones life, but oddly it can be very important and perhaps even change ones life. Anyway you are doing just fine in my book.

Thank You,

In 2010! You are making us older than we are!

Thanks anyway, hcvv. This forum is just great!

:shame::shame:
But maturaty and good posts come with the years.

I’ll wait, then.

jdmcdaniel3 we are very happy to have you participating and contributing on our forum. Many many thanks for your volunteer support and contributions.

As always, thanks for your kind words oldcpu. Not sure how I could have got this far without your help and knowledge. Though, I still have nightmares of seeing you drinking out of a pineapple or was that a coconut? Not sure why? lol!

Thank You,

Happy anniversary to you and more!!!..:good:
As a gift I am adding a star to your reputation.
Cheers.

Congrats James

Your contributions to this forum is amazing, I have found your SAKC script particularly useful

Thanks. +1 reputation point from me

conram & ah7013 for you kind words. I must say that the SAKC bash script was a real learning and rewarding experience. Like everything in this forum, it is based on the hard work and knowledge of others and a real team effort even for those that don’t know it. Hopefully is has given back as much as I received when writing it.

Thank You,

Dear James, congratulations! I am sure you were not really trying to fish for compliments when you started this thread, but anyway: your contributions and your kindness really stick out. It’s good to have you here.

I am still trying to figure out your signatures, though (actually those were the first reason why you caught my attention).

Congratulations and thanks for your sterling efforts. I’m sure you have benefited many users.

jdmcdaniel3, your posts are always worth reading.

TY and congratulations!

gropiuskalle Dear James, congratulations! I am sure you were not really trying to fish for compliments when you started this thread, but anyway: your contributions and your kindness really stick out. It’s good to have you here.

Always looking for the alternative motive as usual gropiuskalle. I did debate to myself if I should make a big deal of this or not. I have been eying the date on the calendar wondering just what my final tally in the forum might be on my anniversary. In the final analysis I decided that anyone can start a thread for any purpose, as long as it fits the forum rules and so I decided why not? Of course I do not reject getting praise for something I did, but I don’t think that I am normally seeking such a thing out. In any event, I am really a lot more simple (minded) on such subjects and I therefore humbly accept your praise. lol!

brunomcl & ken_yap I also thank you for your kind words.

Thank You,

I am greeting your first birthday with my 100th post, James!

I wish you another pleasant year!

But, it will not say at a 100 very long.

Thank You,
