one drive always has journal replays

a new 11.1 install with reiserfs. one of the sda partitions always has journal replays at startup. this suggests that it is not being unmounted cleanly at shutdown. as best i can tell, it does not matter if i reboot from kde or if i take it to run-level 1 and then run-level 6. i’ve not been able to discover where or why. any suggestions? thanks.

What is the partition mounted as and what is the entry in fstab`s options
for that drive?

Have you tried to do a manual fsck to see if there are any errors?

Any smart wornings?

smart is not showing any errors on the drive. only items being logged are temperature changes.

/dev/sda1 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/sda2 / reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 1
/dev/sda3 /home reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 2
/dev/sdb1 /mnt/data reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 2
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0
debugfs /sys/kernel/debug debugfs noauto 0 0
usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0

Umm… cannot see anything wrong with that I was hoping to see a different
option for the fsck param but 2 is what it should be.

What happens if you change the 2 to 0 ( zero ) does it still do a scan at
boot?

Do that with great care though as if anything happens I did not tell you to
and you cannot prove anything

IIRC you cannot use tunefs on reiser file systems so you cannot directly
alter the max_mount parameter there is a reisertune or similar but that just
lets you shift the journal and how the fsck is run ( parallel/serial )

I am wondering if there is a param somewhere else that is causing the disk
scan all the time and just on one partition???

normally reiserfsck should only run if the drive was not un-mounted
correctly or there are errors or when it reaches the maximal count.

long time since I used reiser shame about him being in the pokey

Will have a look at some docs after my curry Mmm… curry argghhhh!!

Let you know if I find anything.
