Hi,
I suggest you check your multimedia settings with this script to get the most out of your openSUSE experience.
MultiMedia Checker or mmcheck - Check Your openSUSE MultiMedia Setup in Just 16 Steps
It is really worth the time.
Ok, ran that, installed the vlc mozilla plugin with Yast. I tried to display one of our web pages that use VLC and it wouldn’t play. So I disabled the Totem VLC plugin because it was trying to play the application/x-vlc-plugin. Now Firefox is crashing as soon as the page opens. Should I post this problem on another thread or keep it going here?
Second question is in the mmcheck script, option 2 was display all repos. I did and it said if I had more than 9 it was bad… I have 11. Having just updated from 11.3 to 11.4 should I delete all the 11.3 repos?
fyi - it’s in the Packman repo PackMan :: Informationen zum Paket vlc
you should use the Packman repo for all your multimedia needs as they include codecs that openSuse can not because of licensing
Though the gecko-mediaplayer is a better choice

Q: Why do you upgrade?
A: Because the Gecko is always greener on the other side!

Personally, I think the VLC plugin “jumped the shark” quite some time ago. I wouldn’t be using it if I had a choice!
