old files now have chinese names

I am not even sure which forum to post this on…

I recently found an old cd that I had burned about 10 years ago. It has
several picture files and a couple of videos. I can see all the picture
files, but the video files will only play sound.

The funny thing about it is that for some reason my linux OS is reading
only 41 of the files, and has interpreted all the file names to be in
chinese. When I open the disk in Windows XP, there are 290 files, and
the file names are all in the original English as I named them 10 years ago.

Any idea how to teach linux how to read this CD?

Also, if I need to post this on a different forum, please advise as to
which one.
