OK so the NNTP gateway changed, what about user@no-mx.forums.opensuse.org ???

I’ve not had much time to spend with my computer for the last several months. And what time I did have went into getting some things done. Since my opensuse installations have been working well, I hadn’t found the time to bother with the forums. I only just became aware that the NNTP sever address forums.opensuse.org has become nntp.opensuse.org

I noticed that I found I could just copy the old newsrc data to my new newsrc file as old message id numbers still point to the same old messages they used to…

I remember liking to use the NNTP gatway most of the time. Especially once I learned about using user@no-mx.forums.opensuse.org instead of my actual email address. But I’m not sure if the change in the server address will change that to
user@no-mx.nntp.opensuse.org or what???

I’d rather not set-up a batch of dummy posts to test it empirically…

From the headers in your post from the web interface:

From: jtwdyp <jtwdyp@no-mx.forums.opensuse.org>

We maintained email address mapping as is so everyone woudldn’t have to
change their address in their client.

Yes that would be what’s in my mail/news client under the “role” labeled opensuse…

I seem to remember that using the simpler format of just:

jtwdyp@no-mx.forums.opensuse.org worked, but that it caused some users news
client to waste space displaying the whole address in their index view or
something like that. {Something I wouldn’t have noticed as I force my client
to always display the email address} Any way, I set up the role so I wouldn’t
forget to use the longer form in my From: field…

And I appreciate that… I’d have had to fix the addressbook, and the “role”
configuration for alpine in no less than 9 currently installed Linux between
my desktop & laptop {including 1 opensuse on each}. As it is I’ve only got to
fix the NNTP server settings…

Color me “happy”…

Maybe you could consider keeping the old mapping so there is no
disruption, and add the new one for new users, because it would be more
consistent :-?

The gateway supports one mapping, and the address is to link to the web
interface user IDs, so it is actually consistent to use
forums.opensuse.org as the address.
