Running 12.1 KDE. I’ve got everything installed including Cinelerra (for creating a Christmas gift video for the family) and now I need to get vidieos into my machine. So, I stick in my USB sdhd card reader and try to copy files. Cinelera does not seem to understand the concept of external devices and does not show the reader. I go to Dolphin and try to copy some test video material to the desk top (so I remember where I put them.) I right click “copy” on the file and go to the desk top and right click and NO “PASTE!” So I drag the file to the desk top and I find out it is just a short cut. I open dolfin in super user mode and try to “copy to” and that does not work. Is there an super duper executive mode or something? Is there a setting in dull-fin I’m missing?
I went to my little XP Nyetbook and copy/pasted ok from the USB device. Thinking I was loosing it, I grabbed my old drive I have set up for PCLinuxOS KDE and put that back into my laptop and every thing works the way it should.

dolphin has a dual pane function…if you don’t have an icon to do that
then go View > Split and then you can in one pane navigate to Desktop
and in the other to the USB drive…
then just drag and drop the file to the desktop…when you drop it into
the desktop it should ask you what you want to do: copy, move or link
(short cut is, i think, a Windows term for what we call link)…just
pick the one you want…

What?! Excuse me? What are you talking about? Who’s silly butt idea was THAT?! I don’t think Newbies are going to take to that. I’d rather work with Windows Explorer.
Sorry, I just down loaded the latest PCLINUSOS and installed and EVERYTHING worked out of the box. No Repository SNAFUs, and copy and paste functions worked and it will see and recognizes and accesses Windows disks and USB devices and copy and paste and transfer files with out splitting anything in Dolefinn. So far SUSE looks warm and fuzzy but there just seems to some thing not quite right and I just don’t have any more time to futz with it. I want a system to be a tool, not a hobby.
