Office 365 in 13.2?

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else was successful to install Office 365 using the current version of openSUSE.
I need o365 for work (my boss is requiring me to install it, unfortunately) and I have no plans of buying a Win8 computer.
I’ll be getting myself a new system though. One without an OS installed for sure, so I can install openSUSE and a backup distro.

Going back to my query, I am not sure if the latest WINE release will help.
Using a virtual box will be my last resort.
So, yeah… Has anyone else tried this?

I haven’t tried this… yet…

If you haven’t been keeping up with MSOffice, it’s no longer installed on a machine, it’s entirely online.
First obvious benefit (to MS) is that it addresses MSOffice pirating, once and for all. You won’t likely see illegal sharing/upgrading/migrating/etc of MSOffice any more.
So, the question then is whether MSOffice requires any browser features that are embedded in the OS or IE-only. The link above suggests that’s not the case (MS products have gradually migrated to true web standards over the past 5yrs or so and have deprecated proprietary technologies like ActiveX for nearly a decade) so maybe Office 360 will actually run in the latest web browsers without anything special.

Thanks for the reply, Tsu

I just received my Office 365 credentials today. I forgot to mention that I was instructed to download and install the whole office suite from the o365 portal.
Though I’d be able to use the online version of Office using a browser, Installing the suite locally is impossible right now.
I just discovered that effin’ MS currently doesn’t support Linux as of the moment. I get the message “You can only install Office on a PC or MAC.” right away after clicking on the link for software installation.
I guess I’m stuck with using a Virtual Box right now :expressionless:

VirtualBox isn’t so bad. I rarely shutdown VB, I usually just “Save the
machine state” and when I need to run it again it only takes 5-10
seconds for the session to be usable again.
