oddities with ejecting CD/DVDs and safely removing USB drives

How about ejecting the DVDs via console and giving us the output?

why doesnt it work in dolphin?

eject -v is the same as eject just more verbose to tell you what exactly its doing. I’m not sure why it doesn’t work in dolphin nor that it didn’t work the first time with eject.
