odd problem with sounds after update

I installed a bunch of security updates today from the main repo and all of the sudden my sound stopped woking. At boot up it states that HDA_ATI_SB could not start so it is using pulse audio instead. The thing is that when I go into kmix I just unmute “Master” and then it works. Weird… So for some reason now the system keeps putting Master on mute everytime I reboot.

Anyone have any ideas?

Im guessing it has something to do with the gstreamer update I installed because pidgin also no longer works.

Does your sound work when you unmute master volume?

Try running alsamixergui as root (do su first) and unmute “Master” (the gui looks kind of weird - it’s the two little kinda sorta speaker-looking things at the top of the volume slider… it’s white when it’s muted and green when it’s not). Then close it and reboot. See if that helps.
