Every time something is shown on top of a video, this happens:
When the “Playing” label disappears, the video returns to normal. I have the same issue when I’m doing video chat over Skype. How can I fix this?

based on the huge absence of info provided i guess one of these or some
combo of several will help a lot:
-buy stronger/more capable video hardware
-install more capable (newer?) software (both system and video)
-tune existing existing hard/software for better playback
-decrease items competing for system resources
-increase networking bandwidth
-remove impediments to smooth networking on existing lines

I have fglrx64_xpic_SUSE114 version 8.861-1 from the ATI repositories. The video codec that’s being used is H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1), according to VLC. Strangely, VLC’s video overlays don’t mess up playback. I’m on openSUSE 11.4 and I installed my latest round of updates yesterday. I will do another update today.

It’s not a streaming video and the video plays fine as long as I don’t enable these title overlays.

In VLC it works fine, but I want to get to the root of this issue. As I said, I’m also experiencing this issue with Skype video chat, so it’s probably a problem with a library or my graphics card driver, right?

I have an ATI card, so I can’t use the Nvidia driver.

well, lets face it: i can’t read!
so i’m gonna stop trying to help except to say this: i have no such
video corruption problems in either application, so it is possible to
have much better than you have now…
and, i hope someone who can read will drop in and give you all the help
you deserve…
