O Hai!

Hey guys, I’m new and just installed openSUSE KDE, erased all windows and now running linux :).

The only problem I have come across is the fact that, it’s not friendly with my 1440x900 resolution, that I’m so familiar with in
Windows. So I am stuck using 1152x864 in the mean time.

Is there a reason for this? What resolution is everyone else running at?

I like high-resolution wallpapers :
1024x768 feels like 800x600 now. :’(

.

If anyone can point me in the right direction to fix this little problem, I would very much appreciate it

Anyway, I hope to learn a lot while I am here, and hopefully will be able to contribute to the good cause. Thanks

Tell us what graphics you have and if you have installed drivers?

NVIDIA - openSUSE

ATI - openSUSE

I appreciate the response. I have a GeForce Nforce (not sure on the number) It came with my slimline pc.

I guess I have to update the driver then? Can I just do this with YaST?

I downloaded nvidia.ymp

What program am I supposed to open this file with?

Should automatically open in YaST,When downloading, you should have selected open with YaST ( default ) and not just save to disk

Andy

It did not automatically open, but where can I find yast in the directory?

I can find it from the start menu and go to YaST directly from there, but when I try to ‘open with’ I can’t seem to find it. :frowning:

You said

I’m new and just installed openSUSE KDE

Tell us what version of openSUSE and KDE.

System: openSUSE 11.1 (x86_64)
KDE: 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3) "release 4.9"System: openSUSE 11.1 (x86_64)
KDE: 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3) "release 4.9"System: openSUSE 11.1 (x86_64)
KDE: 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3) “release 4.9”

Open Yast - Software Repositories

Add
Copy and paste this in the URL section: http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.1/
And Name it Nvidia
OK - Finish

Now open Yast Software Management
Filter by repository and select Nvidia and look for: x11-video-nvidiaG01 (make sure it’s _64 bit) Check it to install and it should add some other packages automatically.
Accept

It doesn’t seem to be friendly, when I try installing it with YaST, YaST ends up closing when it’s finished >:(

Yast does close when it’s finished.

Re-boot and see if anything has changed.

Ok, awesome, I appreciate the help everyone. A couple restarts were necessary, but after that, I was able to run the .ymp file. I am now running 1440x900, Thanks everyone
