Hi All,
I have a question about configuring X on an NVidia ION based box that I recieved this week. I am using my HDTV as a monitor, and primarily using this as a MythTV frontend.
My issue: It appears that I don’t get the right resolutions and a slight “flicker” (as if somehow the refresh rates are set to low or something). This appears to only happen if I use the proprietary Nvidia drivers. I also get a large overscan when I use this.
Some facts about my set up:
- Using Nvidia opensuse build service repositiry with the latest drivers (190.53)
- Using Packman repository (MythTV 0.22)
- Have TV hooked up via DVI (Computer end) to HDMI (TV end) cable
- TV is a Samsung Slimit 27" 4:3 CRT TV. Model is TX-T2783, I believe. Capable of 480i, 480p, 1080i, accepts 720p signals. 1368x760 resolution I believe.
- Using openSuse 11.2
- I set my xorg.conf file to use a resolution of 1280x720
Some things I have tried and other random facts:
If I am on the console, (like if I don’t start X or hit ctrl+alt+f1) I get very little overscan (almost can’t tell). And no weird flicker. My TV will report that I’m using a resolution of 1280x720 or 720x480 at 60Hz.
If I start X with the “fbdev” driver, again, I get no overscan or weird flicker. The openSuse DVD installer looked fine as well. I get a resolution of 800x600 and can’t use VDPAU.
My old FE used an S-Video connector from Video card to TV. Did not have these problems.
If I use the nvidia dirver, If I don’t specify any Vertical Refresh (60Hz)/Horizontal Sync (tried some wide ranges), and specify Option “UseEdidFreqs” “true” the flicker seems to be lessened. However, my tv will report that it’s resolution is 1920x1080i@60Hz - even though my xorg.conf file has 1280x720 as the resolution. I still will get the large overscan.
Does anyone have any ideas, on how to get the nvidia driver to behave more like the fbdev driver?
Would a HDMI-HDMI connection be helpful?
