nVidia repo off line

Got a Dell D830 Latitude, circa 2008 & have run openSUSE 11.x versions on it with nVidia drivers.

Did an install of openSUSE 12.1 & want to use the current nVidia drivers.

Video card …

/sbin/lspci -nnk | grep -i vga

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation G86M [Quadro NVS 135M] [10de:042b] (rev a1)

I am trying to avoid the Hard Way – SDB:NVIDIA the hard way - openSUSE

and use the repo way & One-Click Install – SDB:NVIDIA drivers - openSUSE

but the when adding the repository – ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/12.1/ – either via the One-Click Install or manually, I get the following error:

Timeout exceeded when accessing ‘ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/12.1/repo/repoindex.xml’.

Can a forum moderator contact nVidia & get them to activate the repository?

Also, as per Additional package repositories - openSUSE , " The nVidia repositories are only browseable via ftp. "

I also tried to reach the nVidia repo by using gFTP on port 21, using anonymous with no password. No luck.

The nvidia repository is hosted by nvidia, completely outside the control
of SUSE or Novell. Now and then it goes out of the network and you have to
wait.

The nVIDIA repo seems fine to me? “ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/12.1/

Thank You,

I can without a problem browse the repository with Firefox
(ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse).
In the worst case just do the same and download the rpm’s with your
browser until your problem is sorted.

adjusted firewall for FTP

Used nvidia.ymp from SDB:NVIDIA drivers - openSUSE

Ran nvidia.ymp

results –

Software installation
Installation was only partially successful.
The following packages could not be installed
• x11-video-nvidiaG02

Then went to Software Manager & searched for nVidia.

checked boxes for
nvidia-computeG02
nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-desktop
x11-video-nvidiaG02
xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau

install them, rebooted, & video now works much better

thanks everyone for the replies! nice to have a supporting community
