Nvidia proprietrary install, still showing Nouveau?

Hi, just installed the Nvidia proprietary driver 346.35 from here

openSUSE Software
but it seems to be using the nv one instead, since i’ve messed up the system before and have a lenghty install procedure i’m asking for assistance first this time around.

This might help:

sudo /sbin/lspci -nnk | grep VGA -A2
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation GK104 [GeForce GTX 760] [10de:1187] (rev a1)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device [1043:8489]
    Kernel driver in use: nouveau

The model reported it’s correct, but wonder if it should list GTX 760 twice since it’s a dual GPU?

Thanks.

This driver is not for you. It’s intended to be used with Bumblebee on Optimus (hybrid intel+nvidia) systems and doesn’t work at all standalone.

Remove that package and install the official nvidia driver packages from the official nvidia repo.
See also here, where I explained how to do that half an hour ago:

No. It’s only one card.

Hi wolfi323,

Thanks it’s all done now and works great (not every game but will fix that later), lot’s of misinformation out there as people link to random drivers with no regrets.

Yast keeps pushing the G03 version for install and i’ve put a Tabu on that, is that ok?

Also Nvidia X server settings reports 2x760 now which is great.

Thanks again!

Yes, and necessary it seems.

Apparently both drivers specify to support your card, and so YaST tries to install both.
