NVidia I lost 1920 x 1200 mode.

Hi;
On a OpenSuse 11.1, phenom 9600 with nvidia 8400 system, I had been using 1920x1200 mode for quite a while. Today I tried using a HDMI cable, instead of the digital port, and had to reset my video.
But, I couldn’t get 1920x1200. So, I disconnected the HDMI and re-connected the previous digital cable and I still have problems!

  1. sax2-r allows setting it to 1920x1200, but upon reboot, although the ascii output leading up to the gui is tiny letters like it is supposed to be in this mode, when it gets to the graphics logon it is a much lower resolution.
  2. If I run YasT-configure monitor, it shows 1920 x 1200. But it’s not.
  3. If I kde-right click and configure-desktop–>display, it tells me that RandR 1.2 or greater does not have a config yet.
  4. If i try running nvidia’s x server, it tells me to nvidia-config. But if I do, I don’t have the gui upon reboot and running sax2 again takes out the nvidia stuff. I don’t think I was ever able to take advantage of the nvidia custom driver on the machine.

How can I get my 1920x1200 desktop back?
Thank you much,
nat
ps. In the past, when I had this problem, a simple run of sax2 -r took care of it.

The aforementioned problem is only with KDE. Both 3.x and 4.2x.
I just tried Gnome (which I haven’t used quite a while) and it DOES display 1920 x 1200. I still want Kde though. (Too many kde links at the moment to switch.)
thanks
nat

Go to Systemsettings, Computer Management, Display. You should be able to put it back to 1920x1200

Settings—>Display tells me something about RandR being >= 1.2 and no configs exist.

Hey! It’s back! Believe me, I did nothing that would bring it back.
Last night I shut the machine. Today I started it and went straight to Gnome. After a few hours on it with Gnome, I logged out, chose a kde 3.x session and logged in. And… woa! 1920x1200 is back! Other than having the icons in different positions, it seems fine now.

Although I shut it down yesterday numerous times, it didn’t work.
Maybe by going straight to Gnome after booting today, did it. I wish I knew.
Thanks
