Nvidia Geforce 210

Hi, I have used Fedora for quite awhile now, and I decided to try OpenSUSE. So far everything is great, the only thing i am having an issue with is the graphics. I am using KDE with 11.04. My graphics card is an Nvidia Geforce 210. For some reason compositing “sometimes” works. I press APPLY and a little box pops up saying it could not activate some effects.

Here is my lspci:

Install the nvidia drivers using the Nvidia repository.

SDB:NVIDIA drivers - openSUSE

LinXNute, further to A-D4M’s post, the information you posted indicated

        Kernel driver in use: nouveau

i.e. you are using the nouveau video driver. As A-D4M noted you need to install the proprietary nvidia graphic driver to get the capabilities you want. Note that in order to get the proprietary driver to work, you may need to disable kernel mode setting (KMS) via navigating to yast > System > /etc/sysconfig Editor > System > Kernel > NO_KMS_IN_INITRD and change it to “yes”. This takes a minute or two to save once changed is submitted.

and also black list the nouveau driver with root permissions via:

    echo "blacklist nouveau" >> /etc/modprobe.d/50-blacklist.conf

Then restart and install the proprietary driver (and restart and test after installing).

I thought the repo way automatically takes care of nouveau?

It does.

Sorry for the late reply. I have one more question.

Install the nvidia drivers using the Nvidia repository.

SDB:NVIDIA drivers - openSUSE

Which repository do I download? I see there is one for Legacy, Current, and FX cards.

Current - GeForce 6 and newer
