After a good amount of searching for a solution, I wasn’t able to find any on this forums.
I am running OpenSuse 12.3 (my first time) with Gnome3 and it is currently using generic drivers, since performance is really bad. I used to use nouveau on Ubuntu 12.04 and it worked really well, never had any problems. But this driver, even though it is installed is apparently not working. I saw somewhere it is disabled by default, so is there a way to re enable it? And should I?
I have also tried with proprietary G03 drivers and after reinstall G02 drivers, but both failed to load anything, just blank white screen. I used official packages. I don’t wish to use drivers directly from website, since they don’t update automatically.
I use low priced GT610 with 2 monitors. It used to be able to play a couple of 1080p mkvs without a problem, now I have problems with 480p mpegs.
I had issues with the default nouveau driver as presented by the Linux kernel 3.7 in openSUSE 12.3 and found doing an update to kernel 3.8 helped out a lot. Be careful in messing around with the nVIDIA driver. First, you do get the nouveau driver by default, but failed attempts to install the nVIDIA driver can leave the nouveau black listed, putting you down to the lowest possible video driver. Have a look here about the kernel: https://forums.opensuse.org/blogs/jdmcdaniel3/opensuse-installing-new-linux-kernel-versions-134/ and I have blogs on installing the nVIDIA driver the hard way if you are interested. In general I suggest anyone new, stick with the nouveau driver until you know more about how all of this stuff works.
