OpenSUSE 11.1 LiveCD runs my Ath5k fine out of the box. Installed, set up OS, installation does it also. Installed nvidia graphics drivers (.ypm from nvidia site). Rebooted. networkmanager can no longer connect to any wireless access point! AFAIK I changed nothing during that boot session except for installing nvidia graphics drivers. Get this: I switched to “traditional ifup method” and I can connect to my wireless network just fine.
Now I’m fine with using ifup & tools instead of networkmanager as long as it automatically connects to my wireless network on login. I’ve never liked networkmanager anyway and usually use Wicd instead, but this time around the incredible out-of-the-box support for a card with no working drivers 8 months ago impressed me.
So…what happened and why?? How can I fix this? Also with ifup method, I can’t find a GUI to instantly manage wireless settings (unless I install Wicd or some such and I’d really rather not go through that headache if I don’t have to), such with right-clicking on a tray icon to switch wireless networks.
Otherwise, I am extremely impressed with OpenSUSE 11.1!
Sorry I don’t have more detailed info on what happens when networkmanager tries to connect. All I know is the icon doesn’t change and it doesn’t do anything. When I run it from a terminal it automatically switches to background and doesn’t output anything.
