I had to quickly install “Tumbleweed” edition of Gecko on a borrowed system - intel core i7 with GTX1650Ti.
I updated the system and it installed kernel version 6.5.6. Then installed nvidia drivers but they don’t work giving some drm errors. Then, when I inspected the kmp files, they were for kernel version 6.5.3. So now I need kernel 6.5.3 to work the NVidia driver.
IF you are wondering why not just use intel driver (which works perfectly) it because the HDMI output doesn’t work with Intel card / drivers. I need them on Monday to give my training session!
I have uninstalled all nvidia drivers in the hope of installing drivers from NVidia website. But chickened out
Any help is much appreciated either to find and installed the older kernel or try to make the nvidia driver work for this kernel.
Thanks for you response. I see the kernel in the link you posted. But what is the best way to get the kernel? Do I add this as a repo and then use zypper to install or just download the rpms directly? I am afraid if I do the latter I might run into dependecy hell but to do the former I need some guidance on how to add this repository.
For a one time download like this, download however you like, and install with zypper or rpm. My normal procedure is download with wget, install with rpm if my left forefinger wants to type first, or zypper if my left pinkie wants to type first.
I tried it with kernel 6.5.3 still not able to load the module. There are no errors. It doesn’t load at all. I was looking at the nvidia packages and found the nvidia-video-G06 is missing in the repo. According to the NVidia installation guide, that is one of the package needed for NVidia driver to work.
I guess, I will have to wait.
@blackbrook : Yeah, now that you have mentioned it, maybe it is just my system. If someone can help me further to troubleshoot it will be much appreciated. I see the hardware in hwinfo but, there is no mention of nvidia driver. It is only mentioning the nouveu driver.
