I cannot manage to get OpenSuse working at all. I keep getting a black screen the moment I reboot after installing. Both Tumbleweed and Leap are affected.
I have added nomodeset to grub entry, as well as blacklisting the nouveau driver. I have tried installing manually, as well as using Yast. I have searched for solutions and burned up days of time, and I still cannot find one that works. So far, I am having a terrible experience with this new batch of Linux distros.
On Ubuntu, Fedora, Linux Mint, Manjaro, Nvidia drivers work after install. Both manual installation, as well as from the repositories. They do have an issue though, which I think is connected with Opensuse: anytime I logout (except Fedora) I get a similar black screen. On Fedora, it seems to be optimized well, but has it’s own issues, such as forgetting what monitor is my primary on login.
The type of black screen I am experiencing is one where I cannot do anything except invoke REISUB. I cannot enter tty.
My Nvidia card is gtx 970, and I do not have integrated graphics on my cpu. It’s an older i7 930. I have 2 monitors attached to my computer.
I am using the Gnome desktop, but the issue happens on KDE as well.
Ps: this new batch of Linux ditros/Nvidia drivers seem to be completely broken for me. My last good OS was Ubuntu 16.04. Unfortunately, Unity has bad support for Wacom, unlike the new shiny Gnome. And of the Gnome variants, OpenSuse is the only one that isn’t messed up with button mappings. Sigh…
