nvidia driver suddenly stopped working :o

Turn on my PC today to find I cannot load up opensuse (stalls before loading log in prompt).

I check xorg.0.log: 8.454] X.Org X Server 1.13.2 Release Date: 2013-01-24 8.454] X P - Pastebin.com](http://pastebin.com/vYv2fR7T)

nvidia not loading, I uninstalled the nvidia drivers I was using (to good effect) the previous day: (and mv’d xorg.conf)

S | Name                      | Summary                                                       | Type
i | nvidia-computeG03         | NVIDIA driver for computing with GPGPU                        | package
i | nvidia-gfxG03-kmp-default | NVIDIA graphics driver kernel module for GeForce 8xxx and n-> | package
i | x11-video-nvidiaG03 | NVIDIA graphics driver for GeForce 8xxx and newer GPUs | package

Now I can boot into KDE but reinstalling the drivers continues to give me the original error.

Any idea’s where to start with this?

Well, the nvidia kernel module can’t be loaded…

You are using kernel-desktop and have nvidia-gfxG03-kmp-default installed. Please uninstall that and install nvidia-gfxG03-kmp-desktop:

sudo zypper rm nvidia-gfxG03-kmp-default
sudo zypper in nvidia-gfxG03-kmp-desktop

And it is likely that you also have kernel-default installed because nvidia-gfxG03-kmp-default requires that. You can uninstall that one too:

sudo zypper rm kernel-default

Worked a treat. Many thanls. Just wondering how I went from -default to -desktop o.O

Well, I’ve seen it happen that YaST wanted to install nvidia-gfxG0x-kmp-default and kernel-default when I selected the nvidia driver for installation although I’m running kernel-desktop.
I guess that depends on the specific graphics card though.
