Nvidia crash after 20250717 upgrade

Yestrday was an update to 570.172.08-37.1 nvidia driver.

Now I can boot only from from initrd- 6.15.6-1-default and x11 session.
Wayland session is broken now.
Nvidia drivers update is a mess for me.

And system is laggy f.e. for minimizing a web browser.

@rektal I think we’re going to have to wait til:

nvidia-open-driver-G06-signed-kmp-default is updated to 570.172, from 570.169.

I ran into similar issues and I downgraded all the 570.172 packages to 570.169 by using YaST, searching for nvidia, selecting all packages with 570.172 and selecting Versions tab to pick 570.169. This affected 11 packages for me.

Since an update a few days ago, my Leap 15.6 system also ran on an NVIDIA DRIVERS FAILURE. I recognize about all the symptoms. I will try the solution proposed by linuxvinh, replacing all 570.172 packages with 570.169 packages, and I will report on the results.

It worked! Thanks to linuxvinh!
One thought maybe: with YAST, this was easy to fix. I’m very afraid about what will happen when YAST disappears in Leap 16 …

@rektal @PolderPenguin

nvidia-open-driver-G06-signed-kmp-default is updated to 570.172

I installed, along with reverted packages, and all good for me.

Same for me, yesterday. I hope that next time, nvidia updates will be more thoughtful …

For me the update to 570.172.08 is not working. I do not have exactely the black-screen effect, but I can only use 800x600 resolution (since some weeks).

I tried re-installing latest tumbleweed, with no effect. Suspicious is, that I can only run the installer with “nomodeset”.
I also tried installing latest Leap → there the graphics are working but there I have network issues (I guess no driver for my network card).

Does anyone has some ideas how I can investigate/workaround my graphics problems?

It is better to open your own thread. But basics like zypper se -si nvidia need to be provided by you.
