Nvidia cards recognition ( nouveau, nvidia driver) ?

hi,

i need to buy a new graphics card, i may buy an "old " one (8400 gs from gainward 1 gb of ddr2 for example) , but if a newer card is proved 100% with nouveau (and maybe nividia driver)
so, could you help me gathering more information ? :
i’d like to know which new nvidia graphics card ( Gxxx, GTxxx, GTS, GTXxxx ) is working 100% ok with :

  • nouveau (main criteria for me)
  • latest propietary nvidia driver (in case of need)

could you please give me your card version if you’ve got one

thanks

I don’t know if there is a supported graphic card listing for the nouveau driver but the newer kernel that you load, the better support that you will have in theory. Here is a link of interest: nouveau Wiki - FrontPage

Here is a link you can use to compare video card performance and features: Performance Comparison Benchmarks @ Hardware Compare

Of course I have a blog on how to update your kernel and blogs on how to load the nVIDIA driver if you are interested below:

Loading the proprietary nVIDIA video driver:

Installing the latest Linux Kernel:

S.A.K.C. - SUSE Automated Kernel Compiler - Version 2.71 - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

S.G.T.B. - SuSE Git Kernel Tarball Creator - Version 1.80 - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

I am using kernel version 3.3.3 on most everything, the next kernel to be used in openSUSE 12.2.

Thank You,
