NVidia card question?

I like to use zypper and I don`t know the command to install nvidia card.
I never use command my live:(
Could someone please helping me out so I can run my dual monitor that will be nice.:\

Mike

Use the following command to search for specific packages:

zypper se searchTerm

replace the searchTerm with package name, example nvidia.
The output will be sorted in 3 colums, the first is the package name.
If you want to install a package type

sudo zypper in packageName

replace the packageName with the package name - returned from zypper se.
Good luck.

First, you need to make sure you have added the nvidia repository as outlined here. Unless you know the name of the packages you want to install, you may find it easier to install via 1-click method:

NVIDIA - openSUSE

Okay I will try it out later today and let you know how it`s working out:).

Tnx cheers

Mike

I attempt to find out and the result is:

zypper se searchterm
Loading repository data…
Reading installed packages…
No packages found.

and the next

sudo zypper nvidia
root’s password:

do I have a choice to use root?:\

No, you misunderstood what ram88 meant. The ‘searchTerm’ was just a description (name) of the package you want to search for. In this case searching for nvidia packages with something like

zypper se nvidia

You will need to be root first to install any required packages.

When Im in Configuration I cant see none of Nvidia setup.
Could anyone please give hand ,what I need is Repository for Nvidia driver.
So I can but into yast from yast I can install the full package of Nvidia.

I appreciate every that can give me the info.

Tnx

Mike

I fund in Yast2 Nvidia setting and thank you for looking into.

Tnx

Mike

Additional repositories are listed here:

Additional YaST Package Repositories - openSUSE

You can add the nvidia repo like this (note for opensuse 11.1 in this case):

zypper ar http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.1/ nvidia

I think you’re making this hard for yourself though. Why don’t you use yast software manager instead?

I found in yast and I go from there and I apprecciate all of you for helping me out.

It is solved,rotfl!

tnx

mike

rotfl! I install with out 1click and it works perfectlol!

I appreciate all of you whows solved the other way with out 1click solution .

Thank you all be kind and give hand;)

Mike

Does any one of you using it?

Mike

The new GTX295 I getting next week, I just remind everyone does one of you have one and get up an running??

Mike

There is a new kernel update send to us. Its a security update and would like to use it, bud it comes back with an error:

“PackageKit Error dep-resolution-failed: nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-trace-180.44_2.6.27.19_3.2-0.1.x86_64 requires kernel(trace:fs) = eaa038e67699313d, but this requirement cannot be provided”

I’ve tryed to install it by deinstalling the NVidia driver and installing the new kernel and then reinstalling the NVidia driver once the kernel is installed without any luck.

So now i’m back on the old kernel and all is well.

So i was thinking why not trying to install Latest nvidia drivers manually bud no luck it comes back with he message that it cannot find the kernel source. I’m trying this on the working kernel no use trying it on the latest kernel if can not get it to work on this one.

Kernelversion = 2.6
SuSE-releas = openSUSE 11.1 (x86_64)

Preinstalled:

  • gcc
  • make
  • kernel-source

I always seem to get stuck on this issue also tryed to install XEN kernel same problem with NVidia driver. Searched on the web for solutions bud can not find any sooted for my problem.

Now I’m trying to use “NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.19-pkg2.run” in the explanation it says that this one can be used on all kernels up to the latest.

Hardware:

  • XFX Nvidia Gforce 8800 GTS.
  • Asus P5E-VM SE Motherboard Intel® G35 Chipset
  • Intel Core2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz s775 4MB 1333

Can anybody help?

Thanks and a happy easter.

Duco

Not sure, but first make sure that your kernel source matches your current working kernel version. The second thing I’d check is if there are any kernel version requirements for the particular nvidia driver you’re trying to install.

Ooooh yes the final day is here and it is end of the week I will install the brand new GTX295 and I will let you know with the new thread or one of you have be for me

Good luck all of you

I look into about GTX295 it recognize by the new version of Ubuntu and the new version of Fedora 10.
I know one person he told others:

ASUS P6T Deliuxe V2, X58
Core i7 920
6GB DDR3 1333
Geforce 285 GTX

Running Fedora 10 x86_64, everything works fine (sound, network, X etc).
So there is already two linux OS setup up with no problem to run on
ASUS P6T Deliuxe V2, X58
Core i7 920
6GB DDR3 1333
Geforce 285 GTX.

That is good news I will see that I can run under suse with the new Nvidia driver for the GTX 295.

I can`t wait that I get the new motherboard

Thx cheers

Mike
